A radar unit at the National Weather Service’s office in Sullivan is back online, after being temporarily knocked out of service this morning by a lightning strike. The lightning destroyed a surge protector for the radar system, which agency officials say protected the radar from more serious damage. It also knocked four weather service radios off the air during the storm. Those radios serve Janesville, Racine, Sheboygan, and Fond du Lac.

NWS officials are still working to determine the full extent of the damage, although the radar is functioning again.

Strong thunderstorms went through Wisconsin this morning, dumping half-inch hail southwest of Green Bay. More storms are in the forecast from late this afternoon into tomorrow, followed by a drop-off in temperatures for the weekend.
