And you thought the name of the Capitol tree was controversial… Visitors to Wisconsin’s Capitol building will see an exhibit showing the birth of Jesus Christ. Julaine Appling, President of Wisconsin Family Action, says the nativity scene will be prominently displayed alongside other religious symbols.

Appling says her group followed Department of Administration procedure, and filed the appropriate paperwork with Capitol police. The full manger scene with baby Jesus will be on display at the statehouse through the end of the year.

A sign will accompany the scene; it will include the biblical scripture “For unto us a child is born” (Isaiah 9:6).

Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation put up a sign in the rotunda stating in part, “There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell.”

NOTE: The nativity will be displayed beginning Sunday, December 11 and remain through December 31. Earlier this week, Appling’s group presented a nativity set to the Executive Residence Foundation.
