A growing number of divorce cases are showing up in Outagamie County family court without an attorney to help either party through the process.

Outagamie County Judge Nancy Krueger says many couples think they can handle a divorce on their own. In the last year, she says there were over 330 divorce cases filed with their clerk of courts where both parties were without legal representation.

Krueger says it's possible to get a divorce without an attorney. However, without someone to help them through the process, many of those couples will show up to court without having the necessary paperwork filled out or have unresolved issues dealing with property. She says that backs up the entire process and creates massive delays for the courts.

Krueger says the County has set up a family court self help program, where a volunteer is helping couples navigate their way through the process. The judge is hoping more attorneys will volunteer their time to help the program.
