Yovani Gallardo worked out for the Brewers on Friday and they’re not convinced his sore left ankle will hold up during his next scheduled start
on Sunday. The Brewers announced last night that right hander Jimmy Nelson would come up from Class AAA Nashville and start the series finale against the Miami Marlins.
Nelson was scheduled to start last night at Nashville but was scratched from that start.
Gallardo sprained his ankle Tuesday night in Atlanta and had to leave the game in the fourth inning.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Gallardo’s bullpen session went well, but they’re concerned about what could happen in a game, instead of a controlled bullpen session.
Nelson spent some time with the Brewers last September and is off to a great start at Nashville. Nelson is 5-1 with a 1.71 ERA in nine starts. In 58 innings, he’s walked 17 and struck out 58.
