Chris Lato with the Mark Neumann for Governor campaign says Scott Walker’s negative ad campaign is already water under the bridge. “The fact is we want to elect a Republican as Wisconsin’s next governor. Mark stands behind Scott Walker as the candidate in the Republican Party, and we think that Scott Walker is going to carry the day, that it’s better than a third term of Jim Doyle in the form of (Democratic candidate) Tom Barrett.”
Lato says they thought the predictions of record turnout at the polls would work in their favor. It didn’t, but Lato says Neumann is very proud of the campaign he ran. Anecdotally, he says, they’ve heard from people across the state who were turned off by the negative campaign. And he says Neumann does not regret taking the high road. “No; I can tell you that Mark has no regrets about that. Mark wanted to keep this race positive and upbeat.”
Considering Neumann spent millions of dollars out of his own pocket, will he run as an independent? “No. … no, he’s not running as an independent. No.”
