After years of investigations, authorities are poised to announce new developments in a pair of cold case murders.

Racine County sheriff’s officials said over the weekend that they have arrested a 36-year-old Illinois man for the slaying of 14-year-old Amber Creek in 1997. Officials in Fond du Lac County, meanwhile, says they might have enough evidence to tie a 60-year-old Kenosha truck driver to the 1990 kidnapping and murder of 18-year-old Berit Beck of Sturtevant. Officials in both counties have scheduled news conferences over the next two days to announce the latest findings.

A suspect is not in custody in the Beck murder. A search warrant affidavit shows that photographs of the trucker’s hands are being evaluated, along with other evidence in the abduction. She was heading to a computer seminar in Appleton when she vanished. Her body was found in a ditch near Waupun. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office has planned a news conference on the case for 11:30 this morning.

In the Racine County case, Creek was a ward-of-the-state in Illinois when she disappeared in early 1997. Her body was found three weeks later by a pair of hunters in a marsh in Burlington. Investigators have scheduled a news conference for Tuesday at 11 a.m., where they are expected to reveal the identity of the suspect in custody.
