As Janesville continues to brace for the inevitable closing of the General Motors plant, some good economic news is being announced. Economic Development Director Doug Venable says the city has been working with Chicago-based Liquipur Corp., which plans two separate bottling facilities on the city's south side.

Venable says the first part of the project will take about 62,000 square feet in an existing building, for a hot fill beverage production facility. The second stage calls for a new facility, with state of the art aseptic food and beverage packaging technology. Between the two projects, Liquipur plans to hire about 40 people by the end of this year, and an additional 50 people when the new facility opens a year from now, according to Veneble. He adds that the new jobs will come with a pay scale ranging from about 10 to 14 dollars an hour. The firm is relocating its plant from Chicago.
