A state legislative leader is in Washington D.C. tying to make a case for General Motors workers in Janesville.

Assembly Speaker-elect Mike Sheridan (D-Janesville) points out that the Janesville plant is not closing, but that production of the Suburban and Tahoe lines will end soon. He says the state still has an ongoing dialogue with General Motors, and he's hoping any bailout of the auto industry will include a plan for GM to switch to a new line of vehicles in Janesville.

Sheridan, a former UAW president in Janesville, says state and local governments are offering incentives for General Motors to start-up a new line at the plant. He says the union also has a new contract that will save the automaker $120 million a year.
