Janesville police have a new suspect in custody following Friday night's sexual assault of a 14-year-old after a high school football game.
Deputy Police Chief Dave Moore says 20-year-old Kenneth Jarrett is in the Rock County jail on a probationary hold. Police have collected more evidence through a search warrant and are awaiting results from the crime lab before formal charges are filed.
Police thought they had their man Monday morning when they announced the arrest of Antonio Dallas Polland based on commonalities in the description of the suspect including the fact witnesses reported seeing both wearing a New York Jets jacket and what police describe as suspicious statements made by Polland.
But shortly after that news conference, Moore says, information started coming in that led them to Jarrett. By Monday afternoon Polland had been cleared and released.
Janesville Police are confident now that Kenneth Jarrett is the one who forced a 14-year old boy and girl into the woods, robbed the boy, ordered him to leave and then assaulted the girl.
