The National Football League is bowing to politics and President Barack Obama.

Because President Obama will deliver a speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Sept. 6th, the NFL has decided to open their season on Wednesday, Sept. 5th.  It’ll be the first Wednesday night season opener in more than 60 years.

The Super Bowl champion New York Giants will host that Wednesday night opener with their opponent yet to be announced.  There’s speculation that the Giants season opening opponent could be the Green Bay Packers.
