A Peshtigo man accused of murdering his girlfriend faces life in prison, after entering a no contest plea Monday to a charge of first degree intentional homicide.
Prosecutors say 49-year-old Brent Kaempf stabbed and killed Trish Waschbisch at their home last April. He was scheduled to stand trial in January, but then entered the no contest plea during a court hearing.
Waschbisch was an advocate for domestic violence victims at a shelter. Marinette County Assistant District Attorney Kent Hoffman says the plea should spare her family and friends the stress of a trial by “stirring up painful memories.”
Kaempf faces a mandatory life sentence for the homicide conviction when he is sentenced January 10.
