A second round of testing in the Fox River turned up no new genetic evidence of the invasive Asian carp. The Department of Natural Resources said Friday that 200 DNA samples were taken in the Lower Fox River on October 16th and 21st.
“There are a couple of different ways that the DNA can get into a body of water. It doesn’t have to come from a live fish,” said Aquatic Invasive Species coordinator Bob Wakeman. “The analysis is so sensitive that they’re really just sampling that they’re really just sampling for molecules of DNA. So it takes very little to get a positive hit.” Wakeman said they’re pleased with the results. This after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found a single positive sample earlier this summer in downtown Green Bay.
