At least one school district is taking a wait and see approach, with the issue of Indian nicknames and logos resurfacing in the state legislature. Waunakee superintendent Randy Guttenberg says the district's focus is already more on the "W" rather than its "Warriors" nickname. "The logo still incorporates a spear," says Guttenberg. "But we also have a number of our uniforms that just have the W."

Guttenberg says they'll see what happens with a new bill in the legislature, which could fine districts that don't change nicknames or logos associated with sports teams. As for complaints by residents, Guttenberg says they haven't had any. "It has been received positively and as a course of pride," says Guttenberg. "It also is a logo that has been associated more with our athletic teams than with our school district."
