A Wisconsin congressman is sticking to his guns, on his longstanding opposition to the Iraq war. As his party prepares for a national convention in which the Iraq war will be a major issue, Wausau Democrat Dave Obey is holding fast to his criticism of the conflict. "I think this is the dumbest war in American history," says Obey. "It is totally unnecessary. We were pushed into this war for the wrong reasons, the public was not leveled with by the administration."
Obey calls George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Runsfeld "raving romantics" who had the "goofy idea" that democracy "could be imposed through the barrel of a gun." And then there's the cost. "We've taken the whole cost of the war and dumped it on our kids, because virtually every dollar to pay for this blessed war is borrowed. I just think it's the worst foreign policy mistake in American history."
