A Wisconsin Congressman wants tax cuts for the middle class to be a major part of an economic stimulus package.

Congressman Dave Obey (D-WI) says tax relief for the middle class is essential to getting the economy back on track. He says the crunch we're having now is the result of too many years of families seeing little increased income out of our economy, with the majority of growth coming to the top 10-percent of families.

Obey says we need to put money in their pockets to increase consumer spending. He says people just can't afford to buy the products being made in the country right now, and need extra income to get out there and spend.

The Wausau Democrat says he's more suspicious of tax breaks for large companies and the wealthy, doubting they would do much good to help the economy recover.
