In the wake of an internal investigation into the off-duty behavior of a Fond du Lac Police officer involved in a traffic crash two officers have resigned and the fate of two city firefighters is pending. Michael Domke was involved in a one-car traffic crash early the morning of April 21st and fled from the scene. The two firefighters, who were also off-duty at the time, were in the car with him and all three had been drinking.

On Wednesday Domke and another officer who was on duty at the time of the accident resigned. Deputy Police Chief Kevin Lemke says the internal investigation isn’t complete yet, but the resignations will change how it continues from here. City officials yesterday confirmed that Officer Dennis Sabel is no longer working for the City. He was on duty at the time of the accident and aided the County Sheriff’s Department in the search for the vehicle involved. Lemke says neither officer was pressured into resigning.

Next week the fire department is expected to launch its own internal investigation for the firefighters who were with Domke when the accident occurred.
