The National Weather Service is now saying a total of five tornadoes touched down Wednesday in northeastern Wisconsin, causing lots of damage to the region and one death.
1) New London to Hortonville (EF-2)
2) Mackville to Kaukauna (EF-1)
3) North side Appleton (Northland Mall) (EF-1)
4) Three miles northeast of Mackville, on the ground for 30 miles ending in Maribel (EF-1)
5) 3 miles south of Pilsen/Kewaunee County
The state government will take steps to help the victims of yesterday’s tornadoes and heavy thunderstorms. Governor Scott Walker toured some of the damage this morning, including Trinity Lutheran Church in New London that was destroyed.
Wisconsin Emergency Management will take the lead — figure damage estimates, coordinate resources, and apply for eligible disaster relief. Walker says the Administration Department would make state emergency funds available to homeowners and eligible businesses. The governor says other departments, including Health Services, Transportation, Insurance, Agriculture, and Housing and Economic Authority — would provide needed assistance.
The Appleton area was hit the hardest. Thousands there are still without power and likely will be in the dark until Saturday.
