Who to blame for high gas prices? How about the ethanol industry? Some oil company executives now claim government support of biofuels leaves them less likely to invest in new refinery capacity. "The oil company execs have more excuses than a convict on death row," says Wisconsin ethanol lobbyist and advocate Brett Hulsey. Hulsey says the oil companies appear to be having it both ways: investing in biofuels, while cranking up gas prices. The average Wisconsin price for a gallon of unleaded (as of Thursday) is now $3.42. Compare that to a gallon of E-85: prices vary, but you'll pay at least fifty cents a gallon less.
