wolf_water.jpg Wisconsin residents will have a chance to sound off this spring on whether the state should create a hunting season for wolves. The question will be on the ballot at annual Conservation Congress meetings, and voters will be asked to decide if it's something the DNR and legislature should consider.

Conservation Congress liaison Kurt Thiede says the issue is one the DNR has been considering. He's hoping the vote will help show if the public would accept a harvest structure to control the wolf population.

The gray wolf was removed in 2007 from the federal endangered species list in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.

However, Thiede says that if the Congress approves the measure, it doesn't mean a wolf hunting season will happen for sure. It will just serve as information for the DNR and lawmakers to consider.
