Jury selection got underway Thursday morning in the retrial of a Milwaukee man charged in a 2008 homicide in Grand Chute. It’s the second trial for 30-year-old Michael Potts in the shooting death of Artheddius “Pierre” Peeler.

An Outagamie County judge overturned Potts’ original 2010 conviction two years ago, and prosecutors are moving forward again, charging him with first-degree intentional homicide. Potts is accused of killing Peeler, of Plymouth, Minnesota, in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Peeler was in town to celebrate his birthday, and there was an argument about noise.

Prosecutors believe Potts got the gun from 29-year-old Keith Birr. A jury acquitted Birr of a murder charge, but he’s serving a five-year prison sentence for being a felon in possession of a gun.
