Washington County judge Annette Ziegler will face Madison attorney Linda Clifford in April for the open seat on the state Supreme Court. What kind of campaign can we look forward to?

Jay Heck of government watchdog Common Cause Wisconsin says we can look forward to one of the most expensive and negative Supreme Court races in the history of Wisconsin.

Heck says that's because special interest groups from outside the state will start pouring money into this campaign. A first for Wisconsin according to Heck and for him an alarming development.

Heck says these groups know the court can influence business or labor regulation in the state and the balance of power on the bench is up for grabs. Depending on who wins in April that balance can tip to either the right or left of center.

Heck would rather see public campaign financing for justice campaigns but he still believes voters should have a say in who sits on the bench.
