When the Packers go through a 2-a-day workout, safety and return specialist

Will Blackmon

Will Blackmon rests.  He sits out one of the two sessions because it’s the Packers opinion that his surgically repaired knee isn’t ready for the pounding yet.

Blackmon said he’d love to be out there, but he understands that it’s in his best interest to be patient and make sure he’s ready for the season opener against the Eagles (Sept. 12).

When Blackmon went down after tearing his ACL early in the 2009 season, the Packers special teams units, especially their return game, just wasn’t the same.  Blackmon played in just three full games last year, injuring the knee in week 4.

A healthy Will Blackmon gives the Packers a real weapon in the punt return game.  Blackmon has three career punt returns for touchdown

He’s also making the switch to safety this season, from corner a year ago.
