What a difference a week makes.  Last week, the Green Bay Packers defense

Clay Matthews

couldn’t stop the run and the secondary had a hard time defending Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers.

But the Packers made some lineup changes and turned up the intensity, sacking Jay Cutler 7-times and intercepting him 4-times, on the way to a
23-10 Packers victory.

Clay Matthews sacked Cutler 3 1/2 times to give him 6 in the first two games of the season.

The Bears finished with just 168 yards of total offense and Jay Cutler’s passer rating was a dismal 28.2.  The more pressure the Packers put on Cutler, the more he tried to force balls, which led to turnovers.

Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers devised a defensive scheme that held Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall to two receptions for 24 yards.  Tramon Williams had two of the four Packers interceptions.

The Packers offense struggled at times.  QB Aaron Rodgers threw only one touchdown pass, to veteran Donald Driver, but he was also intercepted once.  Rodgers finished 22 of 32 for 219 yards.

Cedric Benson also got the Packers ground attack going, rushing for 81 yards on 20 carries (4.1).

The Packers evened their record at 1-1, the same as the Bears.  They’ll face the Seahawks in Seattle a week from Monday night.
