The Green Bay Packers fired running backs coach Sam Gash and tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot today.
Fontenot was a part of Mike McCarthy’s original staff and has been with the team for ten seasons.
Fontenot helped develop tight end Richard Rodgers who caught 58 passes this past season.
Gash joined the Packers as running backs coach in 2014 after spending 2008-12 with the Detroit Lions, where he also coached running backs.
His departure comes after running back Eddie Lacy finishedhis worst season as a pro. After back-to-back eleven-hundred yard seasons, Lacy finished the regular season with 758 yards and three touchdowns.
Pro Bowl
Mike McCarthy and his coaching staff will coach one of the two NFL Pro Bowl teams at the end of the month.
The other staff is expected to be Andy Reid and his Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff.
McCarthy also coached Pro Bowl teams in 2007, 2011 and 2012 seasons.
The Pro Bowl is set for Jan. 31 in Honolulu, Hawaii. It’s the third year that players are not grouped by conference but rather by draft selections by captains Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin.
The Packers have four players, Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews, Josh Sitton and John Kuhn scheduled to play in the game.
