The Green Bay Packers were left terribly short at wide receiver when Koren Robinson was suspended by the NFL for one year for violating the league's substance abuse policy. But Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he has no regrets over the teams decision. McCarthy said the Packers knew the risk that they were taking. He said it was calculated and the worst scenario happened.
Robinson caught seven passes for 89 yards. He also returned 12 kickoffs for an average of 21.1 yards, which ranked him 29th in the league.
Quarterback Brett Favre took a shot at the NFL for its policy of not allowing a suspended player to use the facilities at Lambeau Field. Favre said the league turned its back on Robinson. “It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, if you ask me, if you're trying to help a guy out,” Favre said. “If you suspend him for a year, fine. That's your call. But to ban him from the building and the support group that can help him? But at least let him come in where guys can say, 'Hey, Koren, can we help you out? You need someone to talk to?'
Favre said if it were up to him, Robinson would be back in Green Bay next year. McCarthy couldn't comment on that prospect because of NFL rules.
