current stable of running backs?
As it turned out, Marshawn Lynch was available and the asking price wasn’t too steep. But Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson seems unwilling to part with any of his draft picks. Seattle traded a 4th round pick in 2011 and a conditional 2012 pick, a sixth-rounder than can escalate to a fifth-rounder based on Lynch’s performance.
Thompson did reportedly make an offer, but obviously not a good enough one to top Seattle.
At the start of the season, the Packers had a team that they believed could win a NFL title. When the Packers lost Ryan Grant for the season, they should have gone after Lynch. That would have put the Packers right back into the title hunt again.
The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 19, so there’s still time for Ted Thompson to make a deal. But he needs to do so. It appears pretty apparent that the duo of Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn won’t be enough to put Packers over the top.
You get the feeling that if Ted Thompson wouldn’t do what it took to get Marshawn Lynch, he may not do anything at all.
