Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says the team will place injured tight end Jermichael Finley on injured reserve today, officially ending his season.  The move will come when the trade for Jacksonville Jaguars safety Anthony Smith goes through.

McCarthy said this is in the best interest of Jermichael.  His recovery from knee surgery was put at 8 to 10 weeks.  There was a possibility that Finley could have stayed on the roster and then come back in December or for the playoffs.

Smith was in training camp with the Packers in 2009 and will be able to add some immediate depth at safety.
