The San Francisco Chronicle has named Packers President and CEO Mark
Murphy an “interesting name that has popped up in the rumor mill” for the job, which will officially open on June 15 when Bob Bowlsby leaves to become the Big 12 Commissioner.
The Green Bay Packers say there is no validity to that report.
Murphy was reportedly a candidate for that job vacancy in 2006. He was working as the athletic director at Northwestern at the time.
Murphy was hired as the Packers president on Dec. 3, 2007 after 16 years as a college athletic director. He worked at his alma mater, Colgate before joining Northwestern.
Murphy is in Atlanta for the NFL’s Owners meetings.
