Chad CliftonThe Packers went 1 for 2 on the weekend with regards to their own free agents.  They confirmed the resigning of left tackle Chad Clifton (right).  The deal is worth $20-million over three years.

But the Packers found out Sunday that they have lost defensive star Aaron Kampman to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Aaron KampmanKampman (right) spent 8 seasons with the Packers and ranked 4th on the organization’s all-time sack list.  But he was a casualty of the teams new 3-4 defensive scheme.  Prior to suffering a season ending knee injury, Kampman recorded just 3 1/2 sacks since moving from defensive end in the 4-3 to outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme.

So Kampman was interested in finding a team with a 4-3 scheme and Jacksonville fit that mold.  The Jaguars reportedly signed Kampman to a 4-year deal worth $26-million, with $11-million of it guaranteed.

Kampman had registered a total of 54 sacks in his career with the Packers.

Kampman has yet to totally recover from knee surgery that ended his season early last year.  He’s about halfway through his 8 to 10 month rehab period after having reconstructive surgery on his left knee.
