The Green Bay Packers have released QB B.J. Coleman and signed veteran signal caller Seneca Wallace to back up Aaron Rodgers.

Wallace has been in the league since 2005 but hasn’t thrown a pass since 2011.  Over his career, Wallace has completed 59.2% of his passes for 4,808 yards, 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

The Packers had already released Graham Harrell and Vince Young, now B.J. Coleman will get cut as well, wiping out the entire preseason quarterback group, aside from starter Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers have also added former Wisconsin Badger quarterback Scott Tolzien, who was signed to the practice squad.

Both Wallace and Tolzien spent time in the San Francisco 49ers camp.  Wallace only threw two passes, while Tolzien went 18 of 34 for 188 yards and a pick.

There is a connection between Packers GM Ted Thompson and Wallace.  Thompson was with Seattle when the Seahawks used a fourth round pick on Wallace 10 years ago.

Now the Packers will have to get Wallace and Tolzien caught up to speed as much as possible with the season opener this coming Sunday at San Francisco.

Practice squad

The Packers have signed a total of six players to their practice squad.  Joining Scott Tolzien is:  G Bryan Collins, WR Charles Johnson, WR Myles White, CB James Nixon, and TE Jake Stoneburner.
