Wily Peralta became the first pitcher to 14 wins in the Major Leagues this season, pitching the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-1 win over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday.
Peralta worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing a run on 7 hits, striking out a career high 9 batters. He’s 5-0 with a 1.64 ERA in his last five starts.
The win also allowed the Brewers to take the series 2 games to 1. Prior to the series with the Giants, the Brewers had captured just one of nine series dating back to July 1.
Peralta stayed out of trouble most of the day and pitched his way out of a jam in the 5th. The Giants had tied the game, 1-1, and had two on and nobody out. But Peralta struck out Buster Posey and got Pablo Sandoval to ground into a double play.
Francisco Rodriguez worked the 9th for his 34th save. They’ll send Kyle Lohse against the Dodgers in the first of a 3-game series tonight.
Mike Fiers
The Brewers will make a roster move today, calling up Mike Fiers from Triple-A Nashville. He’ll start against Zach Greinke and the Dodgers on Saturday night. Fiers replaces Matt Garza in the rotation. Garza is sidelined with an oblique injury.
