The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team captured the 2016 Horizon League Tournament Championship, rolling to a 64-32 win over the Milwaukee Panthers at the Kress Center in Green Bay.
The Phoenix (28-4) had wrapped up their 18th straight regular season title and followed it up with the tournament championship, earning their 16th trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history and tenth time under coach Kevin Borseth. It’s also the seventh trip in the last eight years.
Junior forward Mehryn Kraker had six points in the championship game but was named the Horizon League Tournament MVP. She scored 32 points in the double overtime win in the semifinals against Northern Kentucky.
Junior reserve Tesha Buck led the way with 14 points and sophomore Jessica Lindstrom added 13. She was named to the all-tournament team.
Green Bay’s deepest tournament run came in 2011 when they made the Sweet 16.
The Phoenix will find out who they’ll play when the women’s tournament field is announced on Monday night.
