The Green Bay Phoenix women took a nine-point lead into the locker room, but couldn’t hang on, falling to Virginia 68-59 in the opening round of the Paradise Jam Tournament in the St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tesha Bucks poured in 24 points in the loss for the Phoenix.
Virginia went in front late in the third quarter and never looked back, sending the Phoenix to their first loss (2-1) of the season.
Green Bay out-rebounded Virginia 30-26 but lost the turnover battle 22-16.
Green Bay faces Tulane today at 12-noon.
