Beloit Police are investigating a recent case of diesel siphoning. Sgt. Mark Franseen says a semi truck driver alerted police to the overnight theft. The trucker noticed the fuel missing and diesel spilled on the ground. It appears another vehicle pulled beside the semi and used a siphon or pump to empty the truck's 65 gallon saddle tank.

Franseen says the theft occurred near Interstate 90 where most of the trucks are parked. In most cases, he says, truckers sleep in the cabs but this driver was staying at a nearby hotel.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage and increasing patrols in parking lots near I-90.  Franseen says this is the first siphoning case he's aware of but with the price of fuel he expects more such cases.
