Police from all over the state are chipping in to make sure the State Capitol is safe during the huge protests, making for some long days for law enforcement. Fond du Lac Police and Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies have been among that contingent for the past week after the Dane County Sheriff’s Department issued an appeal for help.
Fond du Lac Police Captain Mat Mueller says he’s been inside the Capitol Rotunda both days he’s been there and it was loud. “They (protestors) have pots and pans and drums. They beat on it constant.”
Mueller says police work a 12-hour shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with some night shifts and it makes for a long day. The captain will spend his next three days, on what would be off days, providing security at the Capitol.
