The President visits Manitowoc in five days and preparations by local law enforcement have begun. Police Chief Tony Dick says they are awaiting word from the Secret Service on how to proceed and are very interested in what the role of local law enforcement will be.

He’s planning on a learning experience from a “top notch” organization then using the knowledge to implement similar approaches to security with his force.

Dick says the city will relish being in the national spotlight, “We would like them (visitors) to come and shop here and participate in all the festivities.”

The police chief says they are communicating with nearby communities who’ve hosted presidential candidates to determine the cost of such visits and who picks-up-the-bill.

This is the first visit to Manitowoc by a sitting president.
