Authorities in the Town of Geneva say autopsies have confirmed that the two bodies found in suitcases left along a road were females, although their identities remain a mystery. Police Chief Steven Hurley says that at least one of the females was an adult, while the other appears to have been one as well.

Investigators have not said how the women died, but Hurley says residents of the Walworth County community can “rest assured that this is an isolated incident and the crime did not occur where the bodies were located.”

A highway worker was cutting thick grass along a roadside last week when the suitcases were uncovered. He set them on the side of the road, where a police officer later opened them to investigate, finding a body in each of them.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the state Justice Department, and the FBI are assisting with the investigation.
