When it comes to the homicide of 21-year-old Britney Cross, and the drowning death of previously missing 75-year-old Mary Coulthard, Janesville Police Chief David Moore is taking statements made by 28-year-old Clayton Courtney, very seriously.
“We had an individual in our community that said he killed three people,” Moore said during a Monday press conference. “We found one woman dead down by the Rock River, and we had two more people missing down by the Rock River during the period of four days.”
Moore told a packed room of media, authorities are still very curious about Courtney’s whereabouts on the evenings of May 2nd and 4th. “On May 4th, we know that was the evening before or about the time frame that Britney was killed. And we know that Mary Coulthard disappeared the evening of May 2nd, and have have yet to put that timeline together with Mr. Courtney.”
Moore says no connection has been found yet between Courtney and Coulthard, but Courtney is the prime suspect in the Cross murder. In what now appears to be an unrelated case, 59-year-old Gerald Hockensmith, who was reported missing more than a week ago, has been found alive and well in northern Wisconsin.
