A new poll gives the edge to the Republican candidate for governor. Wendy Scattergood with the St. Norbert College Survey Center said the poll of 402 likely voters conducted last week gives the edge to Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, 50 percent to 41 percent. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus five percent.

Only 6 percent of respondents said they weren’t sure who they would vote for in the governor’s race. The poll also asked respondents how they feel about lame duck incumbent Democrat Jim Doyle. “He has an approval rating of 36 percent, which is pretty much the same as in March when we asked this,” Scattergood said. “It’s been steadily falling since we started asking this question about him in the spring of 2003.” The poll also 55 percent of respondents oppose the high speed rail line between Madison and Milwaukee, a project supported by Doyle and Barrett and opposed by Walker.
