The Weston parents charged with reckless homicide for choosing prayer over medicine for their diabetic daughter are demanding a speedy trial.
Attorneys for Dale and Leilani Neumann filed a demand for speedy trial on Tuesday – exercising their constitutional right that requires a trial within the next 90 days.
The demand is the latest development in what is expected to be a lengthy legal battle.
At issue is whether prayer can be used as a form of treatment as the Neumanns allege or whether they should have sought a doctor for Madeline Kara Neumann before she died on Easter as prosecutors say.
A judge this month refused to dismiss the charges. A trial date was not immediately set.
