Are you ready for an emergency?

Despite our share of flooding, tornadoes and snowstorms, only about 20-percent of Wisconsin residents are prepared for such large-scale emergencies. That’s according to a ReadyWisconsin survey conducted last year. “That, to me, is amazing because we’re in a state that does have emergencies.”

Tod Pritchard of ReadyWisconsin says officials just want to make sure state residents have what it takes to protect themselves and their families in a potential crisis. “What we want people to do is do three very simple things: Get a kit, make a plan, and be informed.”

Pritchard says you don’t want to be running around trying to gather stuff at the last minute during an emergency. He says things are happening so fast you won’t have time, and you’ll probably forget something. It’s a good idea to have a three-day supply of food and water, that means one gallon of water per person per day. Don’t forget medications.
