It’s been rumored for several weeks; now it’s official. Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin Reince Priebus announced Monday morning that he’s entering the race to head the Republican National Committee. In an email to committee members, Priebus pledged to bring to the party “less drama, more hard work, more results and more focus on winning.”

Priebus says he’s running for RNC chair because “there is too much at risk” for the GOP and for the country. He promises to run a “tight ship” and “keep expenses low.”

Priebus was rumored to be a potential candidate based on Wisconsin’s election results. The Badger State was the only state in the nation where Republicans captured the governor’s office, both chambers of the legislature and a U.S. Senate seat. Priebus stepped down on Sunday from his job as the RNC’s general counsel.

Michael Steele hasn’t said whether he would seek a second term.
