There are major concerns from abortion-rights activists following recent elections in Wisconsin. The head of Pro-Choice Wisconsin is concerned, with Republican Scott Walker headed to the Governor’s Mansion. Lisa Subeck said Walker is strongly against abortion under any circumstance, and also opposes birth control rights and sex education. “It’s probably the biggest threat to choice that we have seen in a long time,” said Subeck.
“We know that Wisconsin is overwhelmingly a pro choice state, and we need to send a loud and clear message to our new governor and our new legislators and let them know ‘hey, we are still a pro choice state’ and we do expect that we protect a woman’s reproductive freedom.”
Subeck said choice advocates need to be “vigilant.” Walker and leaders in the Republican controlled Assembly and Senate have focused so far on plans for the economy and jobs, but Subeck said whether the incoming Republican majority spends a lot of time on abortion issues, or concentrates on the economy and job creation, as promised, is yet to be seen.
