A new candidate database is unveiled in Wisconsin and nationwide to help voters vote smart.

It's the work of six-thousand staff and volunteers and sixteen years in the making. It's a database where voters can find out just about anything they want to know about thousands of candidates, going beyond the rhetoric.

Project Vote Smart President Richard Kimball says they can find voting records, campaign finance records, biographies and even reviews put  out over the years by special interest groups.

Kimball says you can call 1-888-VOTE SMART and get your own personal researcher who will look up the information on any candidate in the database. Or you can go to www.vote-smart.org .

Kimball says the hope is to rekindle voting interest in a frustrated public who may have become apathetic because of how campaigns and candidates try to control them.

Kimball and his staff are touring the country explaining how Vote Smart works stopping Friday at UW-Madison.
