A state lawmaker wants to help Wisconsin resident avoid political robo-calls.

Legislation from State Representative Roger Roth (R-Appleton) would allow Wisconsin residents to block political robo-calls when they sign up for the state's " Do Not Call " list. Roth says Wisconsin residents should be able to avoid the calls, if they want to. He says this just gives them the option of keeping another type of unwanted call from dialing in.

Legislation has already been introduced this session that would ban robo-calls completely, but the bill is raising questions about free speech. Roth hopes to avoid those issues by not blocking every type of political call. Instead, political campaigns would still be able to contact voters using real operators. Roth believes his bill protects the rights of both sides of the issue.
