A Madison alder is proposing the creation of a protest buffer zone at the entrances of health care facilities in the city, including those that provide abortions. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Alder Lisa Subeck plans to introduce the proposed ordinance in response to protests at the Planned Parenthood on the east side. Madison’s only abortion provider is one of four facilities in Wisconsin which provide abortion services.

Under Subeck’s proposal, protesters would be prohibited from getting within eight feet of a person without that person’s consent. Protesters told the State Journal that the law is unnecessary and violates the First Amendment, and could be subject to a court challenge.
