Delays in passing a state budget could lead to staff shortages in District Attorneys' offices across Wisconsin.

State Senator Jeff Plale (D-Milwaukee) says failing to pass a budget will lead to a funding shortfall in county District Attorneys' offices, and that could result in some assistant prosecutors being out of work. Plale says not passing a budget could result in many offices having to furlough nearly 100 Assistant District Attorneys across the state for up to six months.

Plale says such a reduction in staff would lead to massive court delays. He says many counties simply wouldn't have the manpower to keep up with routine cases that come through the judicial system.

Lawmakers would have to act before December 1st to prevent those cuts from taking place. That's still almost two months away, but Plale says there's no reason to be complacent. He says there are real world consequences if lawmakers don't take action soon.

The state budget is already 100 days overdue.
