The state Public Service Commission Thursday approved requests, sought by a pair of Wisconsin utilities, for increased electric rates to cover the rising cost of fuel. Wisconsin Public Service 's customers will see a 5.2 percent rate hike, or an average of $2.74 added to their monthly bills. We Energies ' customers will see their electric rates rise by 4.1 percent, accouting for an extra $3.12 a month on the average bill.

The rate hikes include a previous increase of $2.24 a month for fuel-related expenses for We Energies' customers, and a previous increase of $1.68 for customers of Wisconsin Public Service.
