A bill ending collection of racial data during traffic stops is headed to the governor. It was a provision in the last state budget that requires police to collect data on the race of drivers and passengers during traffic stops. The law was intended to gauge whether law enforcement could be stopping drivers because of their race, but police have been highly critical of the mandate, which takes officers more time to comply with. The Assembly passed the repeal measure on a 61-36 vote. The Senate passed it in February and it now goes to Governor Scott Walker who is expected to sign it.
