A bill to legalize the sale of raw milk in Wisconsin crossed a hurdle in the state Legislature today, with approval by the state Senate committee on rural issues.
Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center) chairs the panel. “I think our goal was to work with everybody who had a concern. We did hear some concern, particularly about requirements for more testing and we tried to respond to that. That’s what the amendment did.”
It was a party line 3-2 vote in committee to approve the bill with Democrats in opposition. The measure can now be scheduled for action in the full Senate, but not until next year. Opponents vow they’ll continue a strong fight against the bill.
